ABOUT

Ekun Richard’s work is composed of my experiences. He may take the smell, the words or the speed of a scene and turn it into a composition that he thinks represents the moment he has taken into consideration. Nevertheless, words are just as important to him as shapes, one cannot be without the other. The words from his sketchbooks, that he writes as he wanders through streets, give me a way of collecting all these moments and storing them. A memory bank. Richard os always trying to translate the world how he sees it into his own language, through colour, to bring light to the things he notices.

Richard studied graphic art and design at Leeds School of Art, and as part of the course, spent one year studying at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art in Dijon, France. It was here that Richard created his first paintings, and began to truly define his artistic practice.
