Artist Statement
Cassie Worley was born in Richmond, Virginia. She received her BFA in Studio Art from James Madison University, as well as her MFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology.
Through her utilization of mixed media, Cassie offers multiple levels of experience helpful in questioning the ways information is disseminated in Western culture.  Her ideas come from the connections she makes with ancient and modern mythologies.  In particular, fairy tales and Biblical myths, which hold the potential to intersect, and generate new meaning.  Influenced by her own childhood experiences, Cassie has been fascinated, in her adult life, with these dominant Western parables.
Often blending appropriated material with her own hand drawings, she questions the role of the story and storyteller, as well as the Western obsession with using stories as allegorical representations of a culture.  Cassie takes these stories, alters them, and presents them back to the public in a way that generates a new narrative, which allows for how we interpret, as a culture, to create new meaning.
