Galleri Urbane is excited to announce the opening of Theo Wujcik's Asian Invasion with an opening reception Saturday, March 31st. Selected pieces from Wujciks’ Asian Invasion series were featured in a January 2012 ten-year retrospective at the Rauschenburg Gallery in Fort Meyers, FL.  In 2000, a 30 year retrospective of Wujcik’s works, dating from 1970, was co-curated by James Rosenquist and Margaret Miller, and premiered at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art in Largo, FL. Galleri Urbane will also feature Theo Wujcik at the Dallas Fine Art Fair in April 2102.  Wujcik has an upcoming museum show at the Polk Museum and many works from Asian Invasion at Galleri Urbane will travel to this exhibit in July.
Theo Wujcik one of Florida’s pre-eminent artists, lives and works in the heart of Tampa’s historic Ybor City, where his urban life and studio work is seamlessly interwoven. He continues to paint full-time, pursuing his lifelong investigation of popular culture in remarkable and visually poetic ways. Wujcik combines his pop-art style of painting with his deep interest in the careers and influence of contemporary Chinese artists.  His inspiration is the rapid rise of the contemporary Chinese art scene to the forefront of the world art market.  This is reflected in Wujcik’s work where artists such as Zhang Huan are transformed into comic book heroes and the flying fists and striking colors of comics abound.
Theo Wujcik is a contemporary American master who has worked with artists such as Jasper Johns, James Rosenquist, and Robert Morris.  He has received many awards and honors including two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and his work is part of the collections of: the Museum of Modern Art, New York;   The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh; and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, among others.
