The current series “refracting all but one” is a systemic group of paintings studying the evolution of the line and how we see things.  So as I alter the appearance of the land by showing it to the viewer through a different medium; I am reminded of a quote from the book Moby Dick “Whiteness is not so much about color as the visible absence of color, and at the same time the concrete of all colors” - Herman Melville

The medium used is "Encaustic" on wood and canvas. The surfaces are luminous and transparent showing the many layers of color; with the use of a brush and a palate knife,
the
impressionistic images are conceived.
Encaustic is one of the oldest mediums. It was first used by the Greeks to paint the t
omb painting’s. There are many recipes when it comes to creating the encaustic medium, depending on the results one wants to achieve. The basic components are beeswax, copal (Dammar varnish crystals) and/or Carnauba wax -- dry pigments, oil are added for colors formulated by the artist.
