April 22, 2005 Marfa Texas ……… Galleri Urbane announces the 5th annual spring show – MOMENTUM – Exhibiting a collection of the gallery artists most recent work and introducing new and visiting artists.

Included in the show are gallery artists: Jason Wolfe, Bret Aaker, Peter Voshefski, Jason Willaford, Andrea Zuill, Suzanne Sbarge, and introducing artist Julie Speed, Beverly Floyd, Gail Peter Borden and Larry Bemm.

The gallery will exhibit Etchings by Austin based artist Julie Speed.

Speed's works are mysterious and compelling, in the style of the master Renaissance painters, containing a bit of surrealism. These elements combined explore the thoughts and feelings that seem to haunt the human experience.

In May of 2004, the University of Texas press published Julie Speed: Paintings, Constructions, and Works on Paper, a collection of her work that also includes questions and answers from Speed and essays by art historians on the significance of her work.

Gallery Artist - Suzanne Sbarge of New Mexico Collage narratives create images that are mysterious – the viewer surprised by the strangeness, humor, and wisdom of the unconscious will be a compliment to Speed’s etchings.

Sbarge with her M.F.A has been both a curator/director of the Harwood Art Center and Magnifico Art space, now currently creating art full time.

Sbarge shows in Sante Fe, Phoenix and California.

Also featured is Gail Peter Borden- A 2004 artist in residence at the Chinati Foundation/Marfa. In conclusion of Borden residency he closed with an exhibition entitled Space frames.

The spring show will feature Borden’s small abstract paintings where his compositions zoom in on particular architectural details such as the walls of a corridor or objects in the corner of a room with backdrops of color bringing the elements together.

Borden lives in Raleigh, North Carolina where he is an artist as well as a practicing architect at Borden Partnership. He is also a professor at the North Carolina State University School of Architecture, where he has taught for 4 years.

Borden’s work has been included in exhibitions throughout the United States and at the Architekturforum Oberosterreich in Linz, Austria. In May of 2004, Borden was awarded the Architecture League of New York’s Young Architect’s prize, which was accompanied by an exhibition.

Also new to the gallery is nationally known northwest artist Larry Bemm.

Bemm’s work is represented in N.Y, Seattle and San Francisco.

“ Bemm Creates playful patterned compositions notable for their slightly muted and slightly dissonant colors and punchy frontal impact “

(Ken Johnson N.Y times)

Also included in the show  - Peter Voshefski 22 small paintings “Souvenirs of the Portable” have two sides to them, often in Voshefski's work one side remains concealed from the viewer, in his most recent installation – The small multiples are jutting out from the wall revealing both sides of the surface.

Peter has received an M.F.A with distinction and has interned with Nam June Paik.

“ All the artists work has an impetuous MOMENTUM, this exhibit consist of diverse current works, which has always been the focus of the spring show “

Says gallery owner Ree Willaford.
