                                                                                                 "Lilliputians"
This series of paintings examines the material minutiae of our lives. Isolation, lighting and color imbue each individual subject with a sense of iconic reverence. The care and effort that is lavished upon the work provides a quality of finish that positions them as precious objects while the intimacy of scale coupled with the attention to specificity elevates the status of the painting in the mind of the viewer. Craig Cully still-life subjects are rendered with intimate care and attention to the unique beauty of each object. Having grown up in the suburbs of Philadelphia some of his earliest influences come from the area’s long-standing tradition of realist painters. Cully’s work has been featured in gallery and museum exhibitions throughout the United States and is part of the permanent collection of The Boise Museum of Art, The Tucson Museum of Art, The University of Arizona Museum of Art, the University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma, and the Museum of Art at Texas Tech University. Currently he is represented by the Stewart Gallery in Boise, ID, the Klaudia Marr Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, and the Projects Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Being committed to the power of the visual image, and the desire for art-making to be embraced and respected, Cully also teaches. He is an Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at New Mexico State University. Cully divides his time throughout the year living and working Southwest and central Pennsylvania.
